Inspired by the mid-century original Tulip Pedestal design by Eero Saarinen. Instead of the usual four-legged dining table design, the American-Finnish architect wanted to develop a single pillar that resembled a flower stem. The thin stems and generous curves helped to clear up the “slum of legs” that he felt most traditional four leg tables had.
